A quick update on what I’ve been up to this year and what I have planned.
Hello dear friend,
I feel like we haven’t seen each other in ages. :/
I haven’t been uploading as much work in the last couple of months. I feel like I’m getting nothing done even though I’ve been working my arse off! Anyway, this is what I’ve been doing.
Last year I did a film workshop at my old high school for a term with the photography class, which I really enjoyed. Not only did I help the students in making their films, I also made my own short film ‘The Beast’, which won Best Film, Best Costume and Art Direction and Best Actor at the YFILM Festival. This is the second year I’ve won. My students also won Best Director and Best Actress. The school must have been impressed because late last year I was asked to return and do more films, this time as an employee.
I can’t tell you how much of a big deal this was/is. There are NO jobs going in my town or anywhere around here, most of my friends had to move away to find jobs and the ones that stayed are really struggling. Since I left school all I’d been doing for work was housecleaning once a week, my online store, market stalls and the occasional photography, make-up and face-painting jobs. I was offered a chance to do the workshops and then immediately after I was just handed a job! I still can’t believe my luck! I’ve put a lot of effort into my business and into my art and found some success, but I have been so damn fortunate that people have helped me out!
So this year I’ve been working with year 9 and 10 students creating their own short films, as well as making two promotional videos for the school’s website. It’s been a lot of work, but I love it and I love working with the kids!
Outside of school I am busy on two huge projects – the first is a remake/sequel of my 2012 short film ‘The Doll Maker’. I’ve just finished auditions, still working on the masks (which are in my gallery) and we’ll start filming in about two months.
The second project is something I started last year, a film called ‘The Wasteland Witches’. It wasn’t really working for me in that format and so I have been working on turning that into a book instead. Instead of being illustrated with drawings or paintings, it will all be photographed and photoshopped. I’m still finalising models and locations but it’s coming together well. I’ve been working for months on the props and costumes, and I’ve gone through every second hand store within 200 km searching for vintage dresses and costumes! (I will be uploading photos of this as well).
Lastly I’ve been working on new items and ideas for my etsy store. I’ve got all sorts of merchandise that I’ve been selling locally, like mugs, calendars, t-shirts and greetings cards, that I will have up for sale. I’ll also be selling masquerade masks and leftover vintage costumes.
I also want to thank my watchers and FB likers for their support. I know it seems such a small thing to do – clicking a button and liking a page- but it means a hell of a lot to me that people actually like my work and want me to succeed. There are nearly a thousand of you watchers and three hundred likers, and if you all got together in one room it would be very noisy and squishy and insanely awesome!
So thank you!

I've been asked quite a lot recently if I am willing to offer tips and advice to others, and the answer is yes, of course I will. If you have any questions at all, send me a note, email, anything. I am always happy to help!
